The Pragmatics on Leadership…

[Pete]

Hey guys, it's Pete from The Prags here.

[Dan]

Dan Prag here.

[Steve]

Stevie Prag here

[Simon]

hi, it's Simon from The Pragmatics. You know that, I know that. Let's face it, I'm the reason you come to our gigs.  People often ask me, how does a volcano work? And I say, that's not important. What you should be asking me is how this band has stayed together for 10 years.

[Dan]

How do you guys stay together for 10 years? What's the secret?

[Pete]

I remember um, coming into the set up and what was really noticeable was the lack of sort of direction or leadership amongst the three boys.

[Steve]

Have needed to stay structured and consistent and clearly like any business we needed a lot of spreadsheets.

[Dan]

I think the guys really look up to me in that role. I like to lead them around the park, around the paddock, in the sheds, uh, in the showers.

[Simon]

And I'll tell you straight up, because I operate from the back.  I have my fingers on the puppet strings.

[Pete]

So not only did I bring my sort of sweet, warm guitar tones, and a playing style that many people have described as adequate and not too bad considering, um, I also like to think I brought a lot of leadership to the group and gave, um, The Pragmatics some sort of direction.

[Steve]

I don't think the Prags could have stayed together for 10 years without my business leadership, without my ability to excel with spreadsheets.

[Dan]

Strong leadership is really the way to go in any band. You know, ACDC had Malcolm Young.

[Simon]

I like to see everything going on for my position as bass player, which, let's face it, is the most important instrument in the band. Think of the greats. McCartney. Brian Wilson, Peter Tork.

[Dan]

Killers had that other guy, that guy, you know, Tim Farris in INXS.

[Pete]

Might be just sort of anecdotes from my many corporate roles or a link from LinkedIn that I send on to them.

[Steve]

Pete and I often shoot the breeze on formula wizardry in our spreadsheets. I'm quite the gun really.

[Simon]

Uh, the guys know I run things. I wouldn't say in some sort of, like some sort of deity, but, you know, Um, kind happy with that.

[Pete]

Leadership for me really is not about understanding people or listening to people. It's really working out their weaknesses, um, exploiting them.

[Dan]

Visionary, if I may say so. I mean, I don't want to blow my own horn.

[Steve]

My strong guiding hand has been the reason we lasted this long.

[Simon]

Come and see us. We're great.
